goatWhats poppin people? Well I just finished up my reggae/dance hall mix. I’m pretty pleased with it. A lot of these records were pretty messed up, neglected if you will. They were given to me by some old friends from Brooklyn crew(shout out to Juvie and Priest). I cleaned them the best I could and de-noised them in the computer, but not too much. I wanted them to have that dirty sound. This mix features tracks from Beenie Man, Cutty Ranks(my favorite), Sizzla, Shabba Ranks, Junior Reid, and many more. So, I hope y’all enjoy it.

Yes, I’ve been slacking. But it took a cheap bottle of whiskey and an old Self Scientific track (The Return) to realize how much I love to mix or “DJ”. I was never a technical dj, turntablists, or a battle dj. I was more of a party, or party starter dj. Most of the venues I’ve had the opportunity to dj at, the people came to dance. Most, unaware of the “dj culture itself” didn’t really care if I could scratch with my mouth. They just want to hear good music, get drunk, and shake their asses. And guess what? I’m the guy, for the most part, makes it happen. Thanks to programs like final scratch, my library is really deep. So if I get a request, more than likely I’ll have it. Also, I can dip in and out of different genres. so the likely hood of getting people moving is very likely. But one thing I do in every set, no matter what, is play a record that’s not being played on the radio. Whether it be a friends track or some indie hip hop, I will play it. I love to fit a J Dilla track or some Sean Price in after that “party” or “radio” joint. Sometimes the response is great, sometimes, not so good. See when I was growing up listening to hip hop mix tapes, dj’s would break records. Remember when Funk Flex would play Souls of Mischief on the radio? Bananas right? Not anymore. I nearly shit myself when I first heard C.R.E.A.M.(sigh) Now, Hip Hop has become a huge marker with lots of money to be made. And a lot of money is invested in these “artists.” No you have to “pay to get some play.” Its sad though. Now you either have to find a collage radio station or wait till the wee hours of the night to hear good hip hop.

Which brings me to my point of these verbal intercourse. I got stacks of vinyl. I love to mix. So fuck it, I’m just going to make my mixes free for download. Some will be good, some you might not like. The whole idea is just to put the music out there and maybe you’ll hear something you like. Then in return you will go and get the track(legally) and support the artists. So here’s the first mix I did years back. Its got Tame One, Non Phixion, Pace Won, Dj Jazzy Jeff and others so enjoy and keep coming back.

peace, love and dope beats.
