artist_dilla-pic01This is some serious business right here. If this is a glimpse of things to come from the new Raekwon album, then a lot of M.C.’s are going to have to step their game up, especially the younger ones, maybe even retire. Thank you Rae. R.I.P. J-Dilla, Rae is definitely holding you down

600x600I’m a little late on the review, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I have a subscription to For $20 a month, I get 75 downloads. As far as Indie hip hop goes, this is probably the best site and the best bag for your buck. Anyways, while searching, I stumbled across JR & PH7 album “Standards.” To my dismay, I never heard of these guys. I feel like I’ve been under a rock. So, better late than never, right? Well, hot damn, this album should be a standard, a blue print if you will of how hip hop albums should be mad. Just from looking at the list of M.C’s on this album made me want to grab this. Old school boom bat with new school flavor is what you get here. JR & PH7 just didn’t reach out and get just whose hot as far as underground M.C.s, but they went above and beyond and reached out to everyone, including some O.G. lyricists. Kev Brown, Supastition, Odisee, and Edgar Allen Floe to name a few. If I was making an album this is exactly the type of line up I would have. Not to mention, quality production, and not forgetting to add some scratching. A very dj friendly album. Looks like The Snow Goons have some serious competition.

Standout tracks –

Summer Chill (feat. Edgar Allen Floe)

Hip Hop Lives (feat. Edo.G)

Take It To The Streets (feat. Planet Asia & Rakaa Iriscience)

goatWhats poppin people? Well I just finished up my reggae/dance hall mix. I’m pretty pleased with it. A lot of these records were pretty messed up, neglected if you will. They were given to me by some old friends from Brooklyn crew(shout out to Juvie and Priest). I cleaned them the best I could and de-noised them in the computer, but not too much. I wanted them to have that dirty sound. This mix features tracks from Beenie Man, Cutty Ranks(my favorite), Sizzla, Shabba Ranks, Junior Reid, and many more. So, I hope y’all enjoy it.
